If you read language blogs or Linguist List you've probably already found this.

LEXICON: Game without rules. I found it via Semantic Compositions and I'm proud to say I'm on screen 7 in less than 15 minutes.

It's really quite fun, if you're a linguistics fan and/or puzzle junkie (although this one is pretty linguistics-heavy). I think I could get into this kind of puzzle game if I had more time.

I can't quite figure out what they want on screen three.

Each word is changed by one letter....

Does the pear have significance???

Nevermind I got it.

But number 4 is hard! I found 4 pigs but I'm not sure what it wants hehe.

i think you have to find the one that's really a pig. not sure though; it seems it took me a while to find it.

I didn't get it. I'm stuck on #3

Do you want a clue?

Have you taken a linguistics class?

If so, the pear in the middle is a pun for a linguistic term that describes the words heh.

The answer is the linguistic term in question.

Agh! I'm stuck on page 17. So frustrated!
It's a cryptogram with numbers, some of which are different colors (R=red, B=blue):

__ __ __ __ __ __ __
22 8 1R 5 1 15 5B

__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __
15 7R 21 8R 1 6 18B 5

page 17! yeesh. I'm still on p. 7, because I got distracted by other things. Now I know who to ask if I get stuck...

Page 7 is killing me.

I can't figure out the morpheme order... Heh

i got stuck on 7 for a long time (too lazy to get out a piece of paper) but once I did it was pretty quick.

8 took me much longer, partly because of a transposition in the graphic and partly because I wasn't trying.

once I got 8, I zoomed through and am now on 17 but haven't looked at it hard yet.

If I hadn't had your hint about the transposition, I wouldn't have gotten it at all, so thanks.

Any hints for number 16? It's probably really simple, but I have no formal linguistic training at all (I've gotten by using Google, Wikipedia, and guessing, and smattering of stuff picked up from here and there)

And did you ever solve 17?

here's a small hint: the fact that the pips are on dominoes is a red herring. Focus on the pips and their arrangement.

Focus on the pips and their arrangement.

But of course! How did I not see that?! The result is somewhat cryptic, of course, but Google explains what the mysterious anagram means.

Anyway, thanks again!

I'm stuck on 9. I think I have half of it but that's not enough. This was a dangerous link.

Me too.

I'm like...um I have no clue even where to start for this one. Where is that symbol used in linguistics anyhow?

I think it's like /tch/ but I'm not sure....

/sh/ And the title is a clue I assume since it asks two questions.

Does the medial S have to do anything with the question? Or am I on the right track to be thinking of locative adjuncts and things like that?

yes, the symbol in the middle of the page has a lot to do with the question.

"place" and "manner" are relevant to more than one area of linguistics.

Yea, I got 2 right off and was feeling pretty smug. But 3 -- I think my vocab is deficient. No time to figure it out right now either!

Well, Troch thanks for a dangerous link!
