I passed my doctoral defense on Thursday!

It went extremely well, despite my nerves. I was described by members of the committee as "passing with flying colors".

All this praise and I got through the first three slides of about fifty before I realized I was giving the wrong talk (I was giving the talk I'd given the day before as a practice defense)!

I have revisions to complete, but they have to be in by the end of the quarter -- which is Friday. Signatures are all collected except for the signatures from the chair; she's got all of them and is waiting on me to do the revisions.

This is a really big deal for me: I've been at this PhD program for as long as I've been here on Livejournal -- since 2003.

C'est fantastique! (...or maybe even AWESOME!) But don't forget the other great things you've also achieved during these past 7 years. High on the list is your marriage, including the effort necessary to make it sustainable. And you have an ever-expanding circle of new friends. Pas mal, ça.

Your new degree is a nice addition to the family -- our first THINKing DOCtor (double trochee).
