I passed my doctoral defense on Thursday!
It went extremely well, despite my nerves. I was described by members of the committee as "passing with flying colors".
All this praise and I got through the first three slides of about fifty before I realized I was giving the wrong talk (I was giving the talk I'd given the day before as a practice defense)!
I have revisions to complete, but they have to be in by the end of the quarter -- which is Friday. Signatures are all collected except for the signatures from the chair; she's got all of them and is waiting on me to do the revisions.
This is a really big deal for me: I've been at this PhD program for as long as I've been here on Livejournal -- since 2003.

Date: 2010-12-11 05:49 pm (UTC)I am not sure how long doctor has been a trochee—perhaps for as long as it has been an English word, because as far as I can tell, Chaucer seems to treat it as one. But now we have achieved symmetry, for
trochee is a doctor.
Congratulations, Dr.
trochee!

Date: 2010-12-11 08:25 pm (UTC)Having survived a master's thesis with Liz Sharp as my Chair (back in the days when nursing masters' degrees required actual research) I have a little tiny sense of how much relief this must be. You did it!!!!! Can you hear the celebrations happening here??

Date: 2010-12-12 07:24 pm (UTC)Good luck with the revisions. I hope they're not too extensive. Having a quick deadline is not necessarily so bad, though - I know from experience that M didn't look at my revisions until the day or two before the deadline, even though I'd sent them to her a couple weeks before. Your work will be a high priority this week!
