Wow. If I didn't know for a fact that that attitude is everywhere, and often hidden, I'd be glad to be gone. I don't want to participate in that discussion, but I'm wondering which children I'm supposed to stay home and nurture?
My wife finished her Masters at UW, and she said that she heard from many different instructors that the past two years' crops of freshmen have been particularly stupid. One professor even said that she had a student state that it was "stupid" and "pointless" to talk about etymology in an English course, because the Tower of Babel explains everything people need to know about language. I'm serious. I couldn't even make that up if I wanted to.
Of course we in Georgia have the national embarrassment of having the head of our public schools decide to remove the word "evolution" from the curriculum. She has finally backed down, but -- really! Stupidity is alive and well, I'm afraid.
Someone just posted an ad (http://www.livejournal.com/community/uw/388645.html) for The Vagina Monologues, so we'll probably get a repeat...I really loved the review last years performance in Right Turn. Those people are just...off.
