The Iraqi government calls Muntazer (or is it Mundathar?) al-Zaidi's footwear protest yesterday "barbaric and ignominious", which is absolute crap. It's assault, yes, but it's no more ignominious or barbaric than a pie-to-the-face -- more insulting, yes, but not more barbaric.

might be worth considering that a different culture has differing ideas as to the cleanliness and therefore offensiveness of particular body parts, and therefore may seem more "barbaric and ignominious" than it does to others.

I'm aware of how insulting it is -- it's more like throwing shit than like throwing a pie -- but I still think it's hardly "barbaric".

oh okay, I wasn't sure. The pie comment threw it off for me. I agree that it's hardly "barbaric", though.
