hah -- yes, that's pretty close to what I was looking for.
I've been looking at (what else?) comics and found Mike Allred's Red Rocket 7, and Chynna Clugston-Major's Ashton from Scooter Girl which are sort of similar.
when you do not have layers in theory all of your hair is one length. I've layers, and there is a layer of hair at my fringe/bangs/crown of my hair that come to my eyes,, a second layer of hair beneath that that goes to just below my ears, and the third remaining layer beneath that which is about armpit-length.

Wow, that sounds drastic. (Or perhaps maybe not -- I cut half a foot off my hair a few weeks back, and my hair is still long enough that no one noticed.)
Have fun! When A cut his hair last year he had a blast for the next week or two as people did double takes and/or entirely failed to recognize him. His haircut was a little more dramatic than what it sounds like you're planning, though... very long hair to short generic guy haircut. (Which looks great, despite the unflattering description I just wrote.)
Did any one else gasp when they read this? My. When I got my hair cut, my rule was (and is) that I need to be able to pull it completely off my face to the back of my head. This meant much longer in the front than in the back. If you are used to being able to pull it away from your face and don't get it cut short enough to not be annoying, it can be, well, annoying. Good luck! (I bet you won't run away when it's over. And neither will Boo.)
