that crazy meme all the kids are doing

1. Think of a word you would use to describe me.
2. Go to Google Image Search and search for that word.
3. Select the picture you see as most fitting, and post it as a reply.
4. Post this meme in your journal.

Pre-emptively removing trochee visual images -- (try harder, ya slackers):

Fun with unintended collaborative use!

WASP? Healthy? Air Force? I'm stumped. (Australian?)
ah, it's "eye sparkle?" ...hee, "sparkle" is a funny word.

[identity profile] lapsedmodernist.livejournal.com 2004-09-22 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
eye sparkle indeed. I googled for "in his eye" but google knows no gender...

[identity profile] trochee.livejournal.com 2004-09-22 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[pedant]
"his" and "her" are stop words. Since they occur in all sorts of text, they are usually automatically removed from classification. [/pedant]

glad you see a sparkle there.

put a plus before them to undo the stopwording.

try searching for +the, or +www!

[identity profile] trochee.livejournal.com 2004-09-22 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
ah, the official word from Google. Hi evan!

[identity profile] evan.livejournal.com 2004-09-23 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Never official, but I'm happy to help. ;)

Hopefully my linguisticsy project will launch next quarter or so and I can tell you all about it.

[identity profile] lapsedmodernist.livejournal.com 2004-09-22 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
random question: do you know about some crazy linguistics camp that takes place over the summer somewhere really random like Bulgaria or something?..

[identity profile] trochee.livejournal.com 2004-09-22 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
there are a couple of such camps. Are you referring to the SIL projects?

Then there's the Linguistics Olympiads, which might be closer to what you're looking for.

[identity profile] lapsedmodernist.livejournal.com 2004-09-22 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't actually know...my ex who went to grad school for linguistics talked about having gone to some place like that, and it sounded really bizzarre and I. like, couldn't comprehend exactly what it was and what was involved.

[identity profile] moretea.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
SIL rather qualifies as really bizarre.

I couldn't pick just one!

I have no idea what the word(s) you put in were. None. "Housemate"?

Photo for you

Not sure how to post an image as a non-LJ user... so here is a link for you: http://gourleyfamily.tripod.com/album/secondyear/jan01/jan01-5.jpg Can you guess the word? I'll check back in a day or so :)

[identity profile] trochee.livejournal.com 2004-09-23 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
brothers? washing machine? twin? hmm... since I don't know who this is, I'm confused. (hey, next time: read the FAQ and you can put image links in).

[identity profile] trochee.livejournal.com 2004-09-23 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
you are clever. you put the [juicy] words in the alternate text. Nice.

[identity profile] alice-ayers.livejournal.com 2004-09-23 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
now you'll play my version of the reindeer game?

[identity profile] chachachana.livejournal.com 2004-09-23 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
I wanna play! But I don't know how to post pictures and I know you have to have some other site out there to host them off of or something and I haven't a clue about how that works! :/

[identity profile] trochee.livejournal.com 2004-09-23 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
you just click on the image in google image search, see it in context, and then right-click on the image itself and pick "copy image location" or something similar, depending on your browser.

Then you can include images in a link by following the FAQ.

rounded pinko fractal?

balanced? centered? (buddhist?) (trying to cheat by looking at the source): liberal? liberal academic?

okay. I give.
