To an American, a hundred years is a long time.

My mother told me that her relatives would always say that the clan that we belong to (clan is passed down matrilineally) "isn't really from [where my grandmother grew up]; we're really from [this other place]." She recently found out that that move happened when George Washington was fighting the British.
