work!

a discussion with Advisor and labmates today made me realize I have to get a draft of one of my generals papers done by tomorrow evening, because Friday morning I go into wisdom-tooth surgery and Monday afternoon, Advisor leaves town.

My to-do list on this paper is running >30 items. yick. Every time I reread something it gets longer.

But I'm going to try to pick off some of those as I go along. I've already given [livejournal.com profile] imtboo the heads-up -- I'm going to be working hard on this for some more time this evening and most of tomorrow.

Kinda painful, though, that when I feel like I get my life in balance enough to really get my teeth into my work (ouch, no dental-surgery pun intended) I realize how much the out-of-balance stuff has made it hard for me, and I really want to try to catch up. It's not all possible, but I really need to try to stay focused...

Good luck with finishing the paper, and with the surgery. I wish you a dental procedure as painless as the one I had recently. That may not be realistic, as wisdom teeth extraction is more invasive than what I had done, so in that case I wish you as easy a wisdom teeth extraction as I had way back when (almost half my life ago, egads!). I was out of commission the day of the surgery, but was pretty fine after that, and didn't have any of the complications and horror stories I'm sure everyone you know has been feeding you. It'll be fine.

i had my wisdom teeth out at age 19, and it wasn't bad at all. and eating soup after surgery was high hilarity for all involved.

if for some reason you have dry sockets, or pain, make sure to have clove oil on hand. best stuff there is for tooth owies.

and appropos of nothing: tag, you are it. :)

Take some extra time

Sounds like you have lots to do. From your "dreadful dental-surgery punning" (DDS-P) it seems you might be desperate for relief. I hereby donate 4 extra years to your cause, haiku-wise:

Wakes at thirty-two
Goes to bed at twenty-eight
A curious fate

that's a pretty great little haiku there.

Sounds like a bit of Shel Silverstein, a bit of Dan Gillmor, as well as you! thanks for the well-wishes.
