[seattle] Dorkbot 36: Retro-Dork

Dorkbot 36 "Retro Dork" is this Wednesday at 911 Media Arts (402 9th Ave. N, Seattle).

We have Donald Martin presenting retro computing (analog/digital hybrids, sonic mercury delay line memory whatever that is, etc), and Phil Foglio, presenting the steampunk "gaslamp fantasy" Girl Genius.

I'm proud to say that (1) inviting the Foglios was my idea and outreach and (2) I will be MC'ing the event. Given the theme, I'm considering wearing the tails from my first wedding and aiming a little old-school mad-science.

Please join me, as retro as you can!

I think the tails sound like a fabulous idea, and now I'm wondering if I have any appropriate clothing for the theme....

what I really want, to go with the tails, is Hellboy style glass-disc aviator goggles, à la "Mark Twain and Nikola Tesla teaming up to bring about world peace by compulsion-- and how that peace will interfere with the plans of an evil science cabal led by Thomas Edison".

But I don't know where to find the goggles.

You mean like these? I might just be able to help.... [bear in mind, though, that you might be effectively blind wearing them indoors, as they are intended for sunny days in snowy places]

I was thinking more like these. Brass and rivets are key here.

even better: these.

actually, the foglios sell a couple different pairs that are pretty nice - brass-tone and black. maybe you could ask phil to bring a pair for you to buy?

First wedding?

[identity profile] trochee.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
hah.

yes, I was married for about eighteen months, from mid 1998 to the end of 1999, living in Providence, RI and then in Ithaca, New York. I still have the tuxedo from the rather fancy wedding in Providence. My wedding to [livejournal.com profile] imtboo later this year will begin the second marriage each for us.
