I love the Athanasius Kircher Society.

Today's story: Joe Kittinger, who in mid-August, 1960, took a pressurized balloon 30 km into the sky, and jumped.
This picture is apparently not photoshopped, but taken from the balloon.
Kittinger became the first man to break the sound barrier outside an aircraft. Thank god the Air Force program was smart enough to send him with a camera. Video behind the link.

Yeah, i'm very jealous of that dude. I'm fairly certain he's the only person to go supersonic without a vehicle and live to tell the tale. That would be so amazingly awesome.
