I came to school today and got a mystery email from the EE front desk saying "perishable package for you, please come down to pick it up."

I first thought that perhaps it was a mis-addressed package for the MD with my name who works at the university hospital -- if someone looked up our shared name in the directory, they find both of us and they mighta sent it to me.

then I remembered it was is my birthday (hm, complicated tense question there), and thought "who would send me a package at EE?" I suspected [livejournal.com profile] beckyb, who knows how to reach me there, at first, and I considered Advisor (though it is somewhat out of character, sadly). But when I got down to the desk, it was a flower vase from [livejournal.com profile] imtboo! yay for sweet surprises.

Earlier this week I received a box of homemade candied orange peels from [livejournal.com profile] lapartera and a Damariscotta River Association T-shirt from [livejournal.com profile] trombo2. [livejournal.com profile] imtboo, [livejournal.com profile] blackwingedboy, and I ate a bunch of them (the orange peels, not the T-shirt -- dang co-reference heuristics tripped up again) while watching the Oscar nominations.

And tonight, a mystery. or something. I am told to get home by 6. So I think I'd better get some work done...

love to you all.

I only wish we were close enough to participate in the surprise or at least give you a birthday hug. Had to make do with the phone.

Love you!

Happy Birthday!

Also, who besides me knows about Damariscotta and where it is??

OK, tell us more what's your connection to Damariscotta. Here's ours: http://www.lambfamilyhomestead.org/

Note: we still have openings in June, early July and September this year. I am the scheduler.

My family used to vacation up in Maine, in different spots (Bar Harbor, New Harbor, Bath, Medomak) and we have been through Damariscotta many a time. I love it there! It's been a while, though.

If I knew what my travel schedule was going to be like, I would reserve some time in a heartbeat. Maybe you could send me some info? My email is congogirl at gmail.

seriously, it's lovely!

Check out the LFH website mentioned above; it's truly beautiful.

You obviously know the area, so I don't have to sell you there. These cottages are really quite relaxed and low-key -- for a summer week where you can just watch the water and relax: perfect.

Ask [livejournal.com profile] imtboo, who came along last time I went: it's gorgeous, quiet, and so close to the water you can hear waves on the river under the house.

you know Damariscotta! (?!)

My family takes roughly annual vacations in South Bristol, all the way down the river. You?

As I said to your mum, we used to vacation up there when I was little. The last time I was there was already ages ago, maybe 5 years, and I drove up for a day from MA with a friend to go to all the old haunts. We went to Pemaquid Point and New Harbor and Back Cove and Medomak.

I may have to reinstitute our family's annual vacations to that area.

Pooh looked on admiringly.

"I'm just saying 'A Happy Birthday,'" said Owl carelessly.

"It's a nice long one," said Pooh, very much impressed by it.

"Well actually, of course, I'm saying 'A Very Happy Birthday with love from Pooh.' Naturally it takes a good deal of pencil to say a long thing like that."

"Oh, I see," said Pooh - A. A. Milne

I would be honored to have you both attend.

Once you have experienced the pure prose of Milne, take a look at a book by Benjamin Hoff called "The Tao of Pooh"

Cheers!
