As of some time this morning I now have 31 (years).

My mom has some interesting thoughts about children (her own, and having them) on this occasion.

Happy birthday, dear son. This is the last birthday, as I said on the phone, where I'm still more than twice your age! It certainly doesn't seem 31 years ago that I was in labor -- and then in the operating room for a cesarean. Not a fun way to have a baby, that's for sure. Children's birthdays have special meanings and memories for their mothers.

But you were a lovely little (no -- BIG) baby and we were and are so very happy we had you. I have loved being your mom. You and your brother have changed me, challenged me, made me grow and learn and stretch (literally and figuratively!!) in ways that I never would have thought were good -- but they were not only good but excellent. Thanks for being you!!!!!!
