final DSL modem issue update
Feb. 7th, 2006 12:16 amThe issue seems to be that IPv6 requests hork up the DSL modem's DNS. If I tell firefox not to use IPv6 for DNS (via about:config, setting network.dns.disableIPv6 to true), then everything works -- so long as it's running through Firefox. The aboutconfig extension for Thunderbird works to get at the same settings for email.
I'd like to disable IPv6 overall for my Ubuntu laptop and for
imtboo's Windows XP laptop. On Ubuntu, it's editing /etc/modprobe.d/bad_list to include the line alias net-pf-10 off (for reasons I can't understand but cargo-culted off the web), but I haven't figured out how to do that for Windows XP (is it possible?).
Looks like there's still some kinks to be ironed out of the IPv6 rollout.
