(from faculty in [Lab]):
Just a reminder that tomorrow during our normal [Lab] meeting time, we'll
be doing our 2nd annual crash the server day. Please help out and show
up at 1:00pm in [Lab location] with your jobs ready to run (and set up
according to the instructions as outlined by [sysadmin] last week).

[sysadmin] will be directing the meeting.

We have new fileservers at work. Last year we were trying to figure out why the fileservers were always flaky, so we had a "crash the server day" to figure out who was responsible. It turned out that one user (AM) could crash it all by himself.

So after some time, the lab got new computers and dealt with this problem by being very careful. Now we have a bunch of new big fileservers, but we want to see if they're vulnerable to the same problems.

[Sysadmin] says it really should be called "test the server day" because it's easy to crash it. I sympathize.

How'd it go? Was it fun?

I didn't do much. The usual suspects did their thing and the new computers seem to hold up much better. Good sign, really.
