Apparently,

My blog is worth $3,387.24.
How much is your blog worth?

Not that I would take the deal. (via BoingBoing)

Actually, this meme kinda freaks me out. It's one of the first applications of so-called "Web 2.0" that really makes me uncomfortable. Who said you could hook me into your web services? Oh, wait. I did.

yah; I think technorati looks at links-to, and most people don't use the prefix namespace (though I agree it's classy).

*nods* that makes sense. <lj user=...> doesn't use the virtual hosts.

I think this is daft, anyway. If I sold my journal it wouldn't be my journal any more, and people wouldn't have the same reasons for linking to it.

re: daft

of course it is. The thought (and it's what creeps me out) is the idea of assigning value to the Technorati ratings, and they measure it against the big weblog sales that were happening earlier this week.

Of course, we don't own the means of production even here on LJ, so there's nothing to sell. But the idea was a reification of the attractiveness of a weblog into something that might translate into money. The big weblogs.com sale (that this fakedup meme is predicated on) actually assumes that the authors would stay, because it's not the URL that's really being measured -- Technorati attempts to gauge how well-liked or well-talked-about (anyway) a website is, and that presumably requires keeping the same "voices". Boingboing is worth some $9M by this measure!
