Thanks to ivan_durak for pointing out the latest piece of insidious evil from the Bush Administration in a marvelously sarcastic commentary.

Obviously, we're protecting the institution of marriage by bankrupting the economy and any chance that someone who needs to live separately from a potential or former spouse would have the economic resources to do so. Obviously.
