Semantics class was entertaining -- the professor is a charming guy, and though he seems very eager to make progress, it doesn't seem oppressive.

He keeps using "box" to mean "set"; I wish he'd just go ahead and say "set" but I suppose he's trying not to alienate the people who don't know propositional logic.

My lab work is going well, but I am in real risk of getting overcommitted. Need to set firm boundaries early in this quarter, or I'll get swamped by lab work and have no time for homework or studying.

I doubt it's a technical term. I think it's more like:

"John runs". so the meaning of the verb phrase here is that we will go and collect all the running people into a box, and then the truth value of the sentence will be to see if the noun-phrase ("John") is in the box ("runs").

You can see why I wish he would say "set".
