I just got back from a discussion with one of my advisors. We had a great conversation about the direction of my dissertation work, because I came into her office with what I thought was a goofy idea, and just wanted to run with it and see what she thought, and she got really fired up about it.

Now I have an ass-kicking idea for what may well become an entire chapter of my dissertation, if it works. And it involves linguistics, and computers too. And it even has a place in it for "traditional" linguists to help out, but still uses data-driven computational and statistical methods!

Can't say more because I don't have anything working and I don't want the idea to spread around yet. whee! But it's exciting and -- what's more -- might even work.
