I'm pleased with the Mozilla project's decision to pursue Firefox (a web browser) and Thunderbird (a mail client) independently. I like (and use) the combined Mozilla suite, but it's a beast and it'd be nice to be able to have just the mail browser and/or just the web browser, as separate tools.

Thunderbird has cool new features planned though, including an RSS reader, which means (combined with LogJam) I may not log into LJ via the web very often.

I guess what I would like to know is if anybody has made the switch to Thunderbird from Mozilla mail, and their experiences. Was it easy? How much clever hacking did you do, and was it successful? Should I wait, or should I just start hacking?
