Carla Speed McNeil has decided to move Finder to web serialization, with the trade paperbacks still coming out once or twice a year. This move echoes the Studio Foglio decision to publish Girl Genius on the web, with periodic collections on dead-tree.

So far the Light Speed Press website has no news about this, but it was quite clear from the notes in the back of the latest (last!) pamphlet Finder (the first in the Five Crazy Women storyline, which I was skeptical about but have totally fallen in love with now that i've read the first one).

I wrote Ms. McNeil:

Ms. McNeil -

I just read issue #38 (Five Crazy Women) and I loved it. Forgive the fanboyish squee, but Lin's grumpy [naked] expression made my entire afternoon -- and Jaeger's reaction to it made me laugh out loud.

I gather from your endnotes in issue #38 that you're moving to web serialization -- but I don't see any information about it on your web site. Are your webmonkey slaves having trouble getting motivated, or are you still recovering from SPX?

I will keep checking back -- I'm excited to be able to see your new art every week. I hope you can put up information about the move to web syndication ASAP -- I'm going to start driving people to your site.

Thank you so much for continuing to put together *Finder*. It is my favorite comic, bar none.

With admiration,

UPDATE: Lightspeed Press now has the beginning of issue #38 online! And I feel almost famous, since I got a response from Speed herself.

Whoa.

I'm behind on Finder, I need to catch up. I guess it'll be easier when Finder's on the web and my boyfriend doesn't buy copies of it only to run off with it and hide it so I can't read it.

You'll have to tell us if she responds and what she says...
Reading more Finder is on my list once things slow down.

she did respond. but it was very short -- just to let me know that the website now has the first page of the latest issue up.

... I still feel famous!
